Best Clean Skincare Products

MY SEARCH FOR CLEAN BEAUTY
As I have gotten older, my skincare goals have centered around bright skin and clean beauty products! Especially since I’ve had a love/hate relationship with my skin since I moved to NYC 6 years ago. Maybe it was the pollution, stress or water supply, but my skin was never the same. I am now settled in Charlotte, NC, and I finally feel like I am starting to make traction on a good, clean skincare routine. I am excited to share the headway that I have made so that it can help those that are in the same boat as me!
For reference, I have VERY sensitive skin, as in, I “couldn’t put anything on my face without breaking out in red bumps” sensitive. I am cautionary when trying new products and always ease into them. For example, if the product recommends using 2-3 times a week, I might use only once/week until I feel like my skin can handle the product.
I still miss the days where I can walk into any Sephora or drug store and pick up a random new product, but there is a sense of peace to have a new routine focused on clean beauty. In a way, it is a blessing in disguise that I started to have sensitive skin because it opened my eyes to the harmful chemicals and ingredients in everyday products. However, with that said, there are still “clean” products that can cause allergic reactions with my skin, but I am glad to be having this epiphany while still in my 20s— it is never too late to start on a clean beauty routine!
THE PRODucts
For this year’s Sephora beauty sale, I was excited to try some new of the best clean skincare products out there that range from cleansers to facials to serums and more! There were so many to choose from that I decided to focus on an everyday skincare routine which included:
The Review
Now for the fun part— review time! To caveat, what might work for my skin could react very different for someone else. It is important to listen to your skin’s needs and to take it slow when incorporating new skincare products into your routine.
Jelly Cleanser from Drunk Elephant: Let me first start by saying that Drunk Elephant has popped on the scene and really become a cult favorite— and I can see why! What drew me in was the clean ingredients, but what sold me was that it didn’t dry out my skin. I have very sensitive, dry skin, so I was a little nervous at first to go with a jelly cleanser because usually creams give a little more moisture. But that was not the case with this one! It has a great smell and leaves my skin feeling rejuvenated and fresh. I do follow it up with a daily moisturizer. Tip: Make sure to read directions on bottle to make sure you are not over-washing
Resurfacing + Exfoliating Energy Facial from Youth to the People: Wow, wow, wow! That is all I can say because this has now become my go-to for clean facials. I used it once, and I couldn’t believe how instantly brighter and more refreshed my skin looked. It is easy to use and feels like a scrub texture. One of the best aspects is that it is quick and only have to leave on for about 3 minutes—only 3 minutes and my skin felt like butter! I was a bit concerned at first that my face would be red afterwards because of the enzymes, but I had little to no redness. I can’t wait to try again, so I highly recommend!
Squalene + Omega Repair Cream from Biossance: Many influencers and beauty experts have been discussing Biossance, so I was very excited to try this cream! Since it is a repair cream, I like to use it when I know my skin has had or will have a little more strain that day (i.e. exfoliating facials, extended sun exposure, etc.) It goes on very smooth and had good absorption. One of the perks was that the cream would give a smoother, more plumped look while diminishing the look of fine lines and wrinkles. With that said, I did feel that my skin felt a little tighter after applying, so I am eager to see how my skin appearance improves after several applications. Overall, a good purchase as well!
