I’m sure we would all love to have our “Pretty Woman” moment, be handed someone else’s credit card, and shop the most expensive designer brands, but alas, we are left only daydreaming about it! But what if you could learn how to translate the runway to your closet? It is a lot simpler than you might think!
NEW VIDEO: TRANSLATING RUNWAY TO YOUR WARDROBE!
Today’s post coincides with a video I posted to my YouTube channel where I react to some of my favorite designer labels and describe how to translate these runway pieces to your closet and your budget! You can check out the full video here!
However, totally understand that some people prefer to read the highlights instead of video, so see below for some of the top designer picks and their alternative recommendations.
Top Designer Picks
Designer: Polo Ralph Lauren
I might be biased since I worked for Ralph Lauren in the past, but the brand really is a great, classic option that is easy to translate! They have high-end pieces, but also some that are available to those on a budget. Here are some of the trends from their Spring 2021 collection that are must-haves when looking for a wardrobe refresh!
TREND #1: Flowy, Feminine Dresses
Starting with an easy one right off the bat! No one really does classic feminine quite like Ralph Lauren, and their Spring 2021 show did not disappoint! In addition, a dress is the simplest item to throw on, and it can instantly elevate your look and your mood! And lastly, you can keep it traditional with navy or have some fun with eyelet or florals.

Trend #2: Mixing Prints
This trend can seem daunting, but it is easy to translate with some general rule of thumbs. To start, the first rule is to pick prints that have colors that either match or go together. Secondly, make the mixing looking intentional with the top being a large print and the bottom being a similar smaller print (think checks or plaids). See below for some examples:

Trend #3: Nautical/Monochromatic
These two can go hand in hand! Whether it is navy stripes or an all-white look, this is a great trend to incorporate into your wardrobe! For an elegant finish, the nautical or monochromatic look can easily be paired with more colorful jewelry or shoes. As pictured below, you can get creative with the different assortments.

Designer: Carolina Herrera
One of the other designers that is easily associated with femininity and elegance is Carolina Herrera. Although it might not come to mind as quickly as Chanel, it has a very unique charm! The trends pulled from Carolina Herrera’s Spring 2021 are perfect for the woman looking to build an effortlessly feminine wardrobe.
Trend #1: Ruffles/Bows
You can’t really have femininity without some ruffles and bows– and Carolina Herrera does it best! Luckily, these details have now gone more mainstream, so it is easier to find amazing alternatives. Furthermore, for more great ruffle and bow pieces, check out this post!

Trend #2: Corset-Inspired
Bridgerton made quite the splash in pop culture, so it is no surprise that corset and regency era-inspired clothes would be making a comeback! These types of items are an elegant way to accentuate curves and add a feminine finish. Plus, they come in great colors and patterns which makes it easy to incorporate into your closet!

Trend #3: Florals
I know you all are thinking of the line from Devil Wears Prada (“Florals for Spring… Groundbreaking”), but there really is no match for florals when the weather starts to warm up! Although florals might seem common, these ones made from jacquard fabric really take them to another level!

Conclusion
I hope this post and video got those creative juices flowing for how you can translate the runway to your closet! As you can see, they don’t have to be exact matches to still be a really great piece. The most important thing is to have fun and feel confident in what you are wearing. Would love to hear your favorites below or if you would like me to find alternative duplications for other designers!
